What do you guys think of my gaming computer?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Hey. Just note that I’m 14…so go easy on the critique(Me and my uncle built the computer together)

Intel Q6600 2.4ghz Quad Core processor
MSI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard
XFX GeForce 9600GT
4GB PC6400 OCZ memory
Antec 550W SLI ready power supply
Dell 19in. monitor(Don’t know the resoloution offhand..)

What do you guys think?
-Peter
Oh, and BTW. It’s an LCD monitor…and I have Vista Home Premium w/SP1(I only got Vista for DX10..because I play Hellgate London and Crysis, and soon Starcraft 2 which all thrive on DX10)

Hmm, i might get a 720W, but the 4gb ram is quite expensive, 200$…. and yes i am overclocking

Rate my gaming rig 1-10 please?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Antec 900 case
Intel E8500 core 2 duo CPU @ 3.16 Ghz
Gigabyte GA-eP45-D3R mobo
4GB PC6400 GEIL 800Mhz RAM
Gecube HD4870X2 (woohoo)
500GB Seagate HDD SATA 2
750Watt Apevia Warlock PSU
Logitech Z-5500 550Watt 5.1 surround speakers and sub
Acer 24 inch 2ms response widescreen LCD
Razer Copperhead mouse
Logitech G11 keyboard
Winfast digital TV tuner card (PCI)
Vista Home Premium SP1

What would you rate my rig out of 10?
I went for a duo rather than a quad ’cause of the faster clock speeds and the fact that there isnt much software out there that is written for multiple cores right now.
There is definitely a quad in my future though.
hmmmmm, or maybe i’ll skip the quad and go all out for an i7
blue bsod: I asked for a rating, not a lecture.
I’m cool with any rating you want to give the machine but you dropped the rating because i dont know EVERYTHING about chips??? Arrogant A-Hole!!!!
Thanks for the condescending response.

What do you think about After Market CPU coolers?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I wan to ask any experts what they think about the large/heavy after market CPU coolers like the Zalman CNPS8700-LED and others.
I have in the past used a Asus Star ICE (the jet engine look alike) it did a great job,
However the pc did brake down, with the Mobo and my expensive geforce 7800 GTX also gone. the ram, HDD was fine.
Thus i was thinking maybe it was the Very large and Very heavy fan may have been to blame.
So i put everything in the bin and purchased a Sony Vaio laptop.
after 20 months, i need more power and thought i would Build a PC again.
Spec:
Intel Q6600
geforce 8800GTX
4 GB ram
ASUS P5kc IP35
coolermaster m620 psu
antec 900 case.

Only thing which i am unsure of is the CPU cooler, the stock is not good enough to OC, and i dont want to damage my pc with a heavy FAN, any recomenditions will be welcomed.

Thanks guys in advance
also if you are using an after maket cpu cooler tell me which one and how it preforms. please

Thank you Robbie, Stuart, Benjamin, Joe and KingAeacus for your feedback. The time for this question is about to expire and even though I wish I had a few more user opinions, I appreciate what you guys have offered.
P.S. : However, if there are users out there who may come across this Q&A and have any suggestions, please do email me. I won’t be buying this system until the next 4 months. And thank you Kingaeacus for the ATI graphics card update.
