Upgrading from a AMD Socket 939 64 3200?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

I currently have a computer with the current specs, 1 GB (2X512MB) DDR 400 RAM, AMD 64 3200 (Socket 939), an ATI X600 (256MB). Unfortunately it is an NEC computer with their motherboard and an ATI chipset.

I want to upgrade to an X2 4200 or better and eventually an Nvidia 8800 GTS. Are there are any barriers to me doing this as it is a computer produced by NEC?

I’m finding my machine simply can’t hack it on games like Call of Duty 2 (it only runs smoothly at 800×600 and I have a 19 inch monitor). Please help.
Note that I really don’t want to reinstall Windows.

anyone know if ‘glossy-screen’ (Opticlear) LCD monitors strain the eyes?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

im looking to purchase a new monitor and am in the market for one that features ‘Opticlear’ technology. This feature basically brightens and sharpens the overall display and can be identified by its glossy screen as opposed to the standard matte surface of traditional LCD’s. i normally don’t associate health precautions with computer equipment but im concerned whether or not the brighter display of these monitors can potentially cause stress to the eyes after extended periods of use. i currently have a CRT monitor that i had to adjust the brightness on since it begins to strain on my eyes after awhile.

i don’t believe my eyes to be extra sensitive to screen glare but perhaps they are. either way i am wondering if anyone can give their two cents about this, particularly those who have this style monitor. for the record the one i am interested in is the NEC Multisync 70GX2 (or possibly the 90GX2).

Mouse freezes temporarily?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Hi
Recently I’ve installed a NEC DVD-Writer. After that, my optical mouse stops working for 2-3 seconds periodically.
What’s the problem?
My mouse is not a wireless mouse. It’s an ordinary optical mouse.
Also the read speed of DVD Writer is too low!

Lately when I have been trying to burn DVD’s this is what I get. However cos they fail at 99-100% mark they still work fine when I play them back on the DVD player but that could be because I burn them using a re-writable DVD.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with my DVD burner because it is less than a year old and it plays back all the DVD’s and CD’s fine and it also burns CD’s fine its just when I was burning the DVD’s that the error comes up. I tried burning the DVD’s with another program ‘FABDVD’ and it worked fine with no errors. So I deleted my copy of Nero and DVD Shrink and re-installed them both. But it’s still happening.

Also today my computer froze and a blue screen appeared stating a serious error has occurred and the computer needs to be re-started. Then when I turned the computer it said that there was some sort of driver error, what is a driver?

Any help would be appreciated.

I got a whopper for yall! Please read carefully. This has become a hot topic?

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Here on the gulf coast of the US, there are a lot of new emergency generators being installed by some who are perplexed as to the interpritation of the NEC and the NESC when it comes to weather or not to bond the generators neutral to ground.
Now, my past years of electrical experience has dictated that: IF YOU HAVE A SWITCHED NEUTRAL IN AN ATS, YOU MUST BOND THE GENSET’S NEUTRAL TO GROUND. The reason is, if you have a separately derived system, the genset’s breaker becomes a service entrance. And if you have a commonly derived system(through a 3 pole ATS) then it recieves its neutral bond through a common neatral through the originating service entrance(given it aint 1M feet away!).
This goes even deeper…our product, a front runner, no longer senses voltage phase to phase…it’s now phase to neutral!!! What happens if you have a floating neutral now??!!
I’d like to hear what some of you experienced pro’s have to say because this is like interpretation of the holy frickin bible!

Playing PC games on my TV?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Hi I have an Nvidia 7300GT graphics card with the Nvidia control panel installed. My monitor is a 19″ wide TFT and I have connected via a s-video lead an NEC projector.
While I can play video on the projector through my computer and extend my desktop, I cant play games. I want to play Crisis on it but it always starts only on my 19″ TFT. Any ideas how to get it on the projector?
