I am going to get a new alienware laptop. I am looking into the new m17 and the m17x laptops, and I am wondering which I should get. I only am able to spend about 2000 or so, 3000 very max, so I was wondering if I should get the m17x mostly maxed out for 2000, and miss out on all the pretty lights, or should I slightly upgrade the m17x so it barely stays under 3000 and get the cool lights but miss the fingerprint scanner? I would like to know a three things: one, which is better, the cool light effects on the m17x or the camera and fingerprint scanner on the m17? Two, is 1gb of ati graphic card memory or 1gb of nvidia graphics card memory going to be faster?(cause i know ati is cheaper - so is it worse or something?) And finally, which is better - the m17 mostly maxed out, or the m17x barely upgraded a little? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey all, Im building a computer desktop, which will be made for gaming, so far I have listed these as the things that I will need to purchase:

$500 -SLI motherboard nForce 790i Ultra SLI MCP
$250 - Computer case, Antec Nine Hundred
$1100 - 1000 - 2 graphics card, Nvidia GeForce 9800gtx
$800 -8 GB DDR ram
$250 -Windows vista basic

What else would I need to purchase in order for the computer to run ? (E.g fans etc) Also please keep in mind that I want it to be a really good gaming computer, I have $5000 USD that i’m willing to spend.

i know the new one is nvidia and probably better but what i’m trying to figure out is is it worth while to install it and also will it be good enought to use for COMMAND AND CONQUER 3 at the highest res …also i paid $50 for the new one is that a good price?

I have an Hp Media Center a1630n. I will list my system specs first:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 @ 2.41ghz
4gb 533mhz ram
nVidia 8800 GT 512mb
Antec EA500 500W psu
Western Digital 250gb hd @ 7200rpm

Motherboard (stock): Hp Asus A8M2N-LA (the one associated with Hp if there is another version) socket AM2

I have noticed since i upgraded from an ATi x1600 pro 512mb (400mhz core, 450mhz memory) to an 8800 that performance has slowed down maybe 10-20%, and the 8800 isnt performing to its potential, or atleast to the performance ive seen in its benchmarks. I get an average of around 100fps (changes between 60-120 avg, maxing out at 200 sometimes) in CSS with 1280×1024 resolution, x8 aniostropic (sorry if i spelled that wrong, but i think you will know what i mean) filtering and x8 anti aliasing. I tried turning the effects to default settings but i didnt see much of a change in the fps, maybe +-10 fps. my friend has an 8600 gt (exact manufacturer unknown) and he gets consistent 160fps with ..cont >>
(dont know the resolution, but higher than my standard 19′) with default aniostropic filtering and aliasing. I am thinking that my motherboard is what is keeping my 8800 from reaching its full potential.

I have looked up my motherboard and it sells for around $90 usd (i was suprised, thought it would be a really cheap one). I was wondering if getting a different, newer one would enchance performance, and if possible, would there be any that are less than $75 usd?
PS> needs PCI-e x16 slot and 4 ram slots! If it is not a mini atx motherboard like mine, i am planning on getting a new case anyways… and i was wondering…will changing the mobo get rid of the hp brand name at start up or will I be able to install a different o/s? (cant change os with current set up)
and i do have the most recent drivers installed (sorry for not posting that earlier)

I have GForce 8600 GT with 512 MB RAM DDR3 and I am wondering which is the best performance? My card or ant ATI card similar to mine with same specification ?

Which one performs better?Radeon costs 199$CAD and the 8600gts costs 250$CAD.Btw Direct x 10 does not matter to me because i do not have vista and i am not planning to get it anytime soon.Which one should I get?

they don’t have anything that can compare to ATI’s 800 stream processors. they are a really good company but they havnt come out with that is loads faster than than previous models since the 8000 series came out. sure the have the gtx series but that can’t compare to the 4870×2. surely their not just going to let ATI win are they? i mean come on ATI drivers suck!
