Why does a bullet look like it does in the matrix and in slow motion?

What does breaking the sound barrier have to do with distorting/the diffraction of light? Is it just a ton of energy in the form of a wave, making it more difficult for the light to pass through?

    Because The Matrix is a movie, and movies aren’t real.

    (The ’sound barrier’ relates to the speed of sound, not light.)
